After a summer full of picnics, beach days, barbecues, festivals and other outdoor events, it has become clear on-the-go canned wine is popular. And why wouldn’t it be? Cans are easily portable, lightweight and come in sizes that suit portion control. Moreover, they chill quickly and while products in larger containers could lose their freshness and zing, cans help to keep the overall quality of the drink high.

What we didn’t expect however, is that canned wine would make its way into the world of fashion. So what are we talking about?

Besides having the highest recycling rate amongst consumers and needing a lot less energy to recycle than bottles, cans also have a number of other advantages. In terms of on-shelf standout and branding, their printable aluminium surface means they are versatile, lending themselves well to decoration and bold colours.

So, while there may be some hesitation in moving away from bottles in certain sectors of the market, cans are able to inspire impulse purchase and exploration among shoppers.
